Huang jumped in early to describe how well AI has improved -- not the least by using his company's GPUs. "In the last several years, I would say AI technology has increased, probably in the last two years alone, maybe 100X -- let's just give it a number," Huang said on the podcast .

As expected, the company refreshed its lineup of graphics cards with RTX 40 Super GPUs that are slated to deliver performance boosts at lower prices. The RTX 4080 Super ( 999) and RTX 4070 Ti Super ( 799) are set to go on sale later this month and are said to be faster than their predecessors. NVIDIA hasn't divulged the full specs of the latest GPUs yet, but the RTX 4070 Ti Super will have 16GB of memory, compared with the previous model's 12GB.

As usual, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang revealed a ton of news during his keynote at the company's GPU Technology Conference yesterday. There's the new Quadro GV100 GPU, which is based on NVIDIA's Volta architecture and will power its new RTX ray tracing technology. The company also revealed its Drive Constellation system for testing self-driving cars in virtual reality, which will certainly help now that it's pausing real world testing. Finally, NVIDIA made some major announcements around AI: its new DGX-2 "personal supercomputer" is insanely powerful, and it's also partnering with ARM to bring its deep learning technology into upcoming Trillium mobile chips.

There are multiple approaches to tackling self-driving; one is to program algorithms or rules that will tell a car how to behave in specific situations.

It's rare that we get extended footage of autonomous cars driving in a a series of situations. Nvidia, the technology company that makes graphics cards and computers for autonomous car development, published a paper detailing a new system of deep learning that teaches itself how to drive with "minimum training data from humans." The paper also included video footage, of which we are pleased to present the highlights. The algorithm learned to detect roadways itself, based on examples of driving provided by researchers. It also is able to classify roads so well that it can still drive when there aren't painted lines, which is how many autonomous systems judge the edge of the road now.
